Fair to say that the past few months have been a bit of a whirlwind for everybody - but whilst for many it’s been pretty tough, we have actually have a rather brilliant few months with the arrival of two little boys to the household. And like many a parent I have found myself knee-deep in potato-printing and fuzzy felt, not to mention some very adventurous uses for old milk bottles - but I’ve also been incredibly lucky to introduce our two little ones to the wonderful world of clay. They seem to love it - any excuse to get your hands filthy right! - and what with being off work I’ve also found a little extra time to get cracking on some farmyard animals for the boys’ rooms. Although it might be a few years before they’re allowed down from the shelf!
A Trip To The Office…
Chrissy, Cheryl, Trevor and their potted friends enjoyed a day out at my office in July – as part of Sotheby’s annual Staff Exhibition – this year raising money for the fantastic mental health charity Mind. They were (by and large) well behaved – although Cheryl’s somewhat skimpy attire left a little to be desired and I am sure raised the odd eyebrow! The event raised some great awareness – and dosh! – for the charity – with several of the little Potted People wandering off to new homes, as well as all the ducks and seagulls which have now flown the nest. Now it’s on to making some more…
This Little Piggie...
With 2019 well under way I have managed to do the unheard of – actually stick to my new year’s resolutions. Everybody seems to be giving veganism a try, but I love cheese far too much to even contemplate this. And whilst not quite going ‘full-veggie’ I am making a concerted effort to eat less meat. So far, so good. However the real challenge will be the first whiff of a bacon sandwich … wish me luck!
Things can only get Zetter...
I am absolutely delighted to be giving The Potted People their first ever public outing at London’s super swanky Zetter Hotel in Clerkenwell. It’s the first time I’ve ever properly exhibited them, and I’m not going to lie, I was pretty nervous! But, not wanting to blow my own trumpet, I think they look pretty nifty – and are being shown alongside some fantastic paintings and drawings by Arabella Ross.
They’ll be at the Zetter until 24th November – available for sale (just in case you want to make a head start on your Christmas shopping!) – So why not pop in for a G&T and a look…
Getting Started...
It’s always a little scary, starting something new - whether it’s a new school, new job or a new venture.
Ever since I was little I’ve loved pottery – making, collecting and destroying (I was an ace shot at the coconut shy!). But, as is often the case, we forget our hobbies and passions when we enter the scary grown-up world of adulthood. But I’ve been really lucky over the past couple of years to get back into making – and the feel of cold, wet clay was like shaking hands with an old friend! As my hobby grows I wanted to create a little home for my clay creations – christened The Potted People.
So here we are. Now I’m terrible at technology, but I’ll give it a go. And perhaps instead of ‘venture’ I should be calling it an adventure.
I hope that the potted people bring a smile to your face and remind us that life doesn’t always have to be taken too seriously ….
